It´s not Mexican and it´s not quite in the country, but the Aztec Country Club in Riviera del Sol is definitely a place to seek out and find if it´s all-round entertainment and relaxation you´re looking for.
Located just off the A7/N340 coastal highway between Fuengirola and Marbella, at KM 200 (Riviera exit), the Aztec is well signed and very easy to reach on Calle Libra - just 400 metres or so from the small Riviera commercial area.
Whether you choose to stay on holiday, or just to visit for the day - the Aztec is open to the general public - the focus of the entire operation is on providing you with great service and good value for money. The Aztec is extremely family friendly and offers superb facilities whatever your holiday or leisure-time needs may be. (Disabled access is available.)
The Aztec reception area is open 24 hours a day and helpful, multi-lingual staff are on hand to offer information and advice about local services, events and attractions. Internet access is available.
Holiday accommodation at the Aztec is in beautifully furnished 1 & 2 bedroom apartments, all fully equipped and most with terraces. Full use of the Aztec facilities is included, however, private gym and tennis classes etc. are charged separately. Rentals are available throughout the year, with discounts in winter months - so, golfers please take note!
The Aztec´s 18m swimming pool is heated for all year round enjoyment and has a large terrace which is a real sun trap, so you can simply lie back, relax and top-up your tan. However, if you happen to prefer sand with everything - the local beach is only a 5 minute walk away, but it´s downhill on the way there and uphill all the way back! You have been warned!
There are two very different bars situated within the Aztec complex. ´The Office´is a very comfortable sports bar/lounge offering 4 American style pool tables and a terrific sound and vision system where you can watch all the best live football and other top international sporting events. The atmosphere is relaxed, but it can get crowded for the really big games, so get there early to ensure a good view.
´La Piscina´, re-opening in December 2007, is where Dean and his team host a brand new and luxurious, poolside lounge/bar offering a unique and sophisticated blend of dining, lounging and swimming. Totally refurbished and uber-chic, La Piscina re-defines the art of relaxation with four poster sun-beds, ambient music, mixology and fabulous food which is …well, different! La Piscina is definitely the place to see and be seen if you want to experience a little of how the ´other half´ lives, but at sensible prices your real other-half won´t mind! For reservations, parties and events call 0034 952935575.
´Fellini´s Restaurant´ at the Aztec provides the finest Italian cuisine, as well as great pasta dishes, pizzas and even a takeaway service. The restaurant has a huge terrace overlooking the swimming pool and tennis courts, offering you a marvellous Mediterranean ambience, ideal for outdoor dining in the warmer months. Fellini´s will be happy to discuss your needs for any type of function or party. To reserve a table just call 0034 952934477.

Mini-golf at the Aztec involves 18 crazy holes, safely situated in a former tennis court and packed with family fun. The course is floodlit in summer and is open to kids of all ages - with parental supervision.
Tennis is a real focal point at the Aztec, where the ´R&S Tennis Academy´ is run by Raymond Diez, an experienced LTA Professional, who offers tuition in English and Spanish. The tennis centre has 6 top-quality cement courts (3 with floodlights) and holds regular competitions and friendly ´roll-up´events throughout the year. Kids summer tennis camps are a popular feature during the main school holidays. Memberships are available. Call 0034 651432264 for more information.
Downstairs at Aztec is the Gym & Fitness Centre run by Eric, a former Bodybuilding champion whose diminutive size is very deceptive! The centre is air-conditioned and spacious, with every conceivable type of equipment available, for which Eric is always happy to give help and instructions. The separate dance studio offers a programme of aerobics, pilates, circuit training and boxercise classes, and there is a sauna/jacuzzi to relax away the after-effects of your workout. Memberships are available. Call 0034 952933257 for details on classes.
Last, but far from least, is ´Hair & Beauty´ at Aztec, where you will find Helen´s friendly, professional team is always happy to help - whether you need a completely new look or just a quick ´flick´ before dinner. The hair salon service is seamlessly combined with a comprehensive programme of natural therapies, beauty and nail treatments as well as chiropody and even semi permanent make-up. ´Hair & Beauty´ at Aztec also has a fully qualified Sports Physiotherapist, for treatment of all types of sporting injuries, general podiatry and sports massage. To make an appointment - call 0034 952939609 (The salon is closed on Mondays.)
