Located 17km from the historic city of Ronda nestled at the foot of the stunning Sierra de Jarastepar range you will find the pretty little Andalucian village of Alpandeire.

This village is surrounded by some of the most stunning countryside in Andalucia with exceptional beauty such as El Pozancón, Los Huertos and Finca de Las Amarillas.

This hills and mountains that surround the village are covered with of pines, chestnuts, cork oaks and olive trees and there are numerous streams such as the Audalaza, Jandaque and La Fuente. All this provide the setting for one of the most magnificent spots in Andalucia.

Local attractions in the village include

The San Antonio de Padua church which dates 16TH Century dominates this timy village and is refered to as the “Catedral de la Serranía” (“Cathedral of the Highlands”). Located in the basement is a cemetery in which “embalmed and intact bodies” have been found, according to popular tradition. It is, however, true that, in the crypt of the church there are two very well preserved mummies that apparently are of a married couple who, contributed money to the construction of the church.

Another fascinating building in the village is the house that is the birthplace of Friar Leopoldo , a Capuchín monk devoted his life to helping those who were most in need..He was born here in 1866 and the village has such great affection for him is in the process of placing a statue in the place known as El Cerrajón. The building itself shows the typical characteristics of the popular architecture of the local highlands. The dwelling has become an artistic and historic monument.

Another building of note is the Antiguo Pósito (Old Municipal Granary),, a fascinating building that dates from the seventeenth century and displays some truly interesting architecture which has been converted into a cultural centre due to its location in the centre of the village,

Located just 200 metres from the village, you will find an underground river that in times of plentiful rains comes to the surface.and a kilometre downstream this channel you will find a magnificent waterfall 50 metres high which is located in the stunning area known as El Chorrerón, This spectacular sight not to be missed. It can only be viewed for a few days after there has been sufficient rainfall in the region.

For the more adventurous visitor you can head for the peak of the Sierra de Jarastepar where you can see some magnificent sights including the Rock of Gibraltar in the background

The “El Niño del Huerto” (“Child of the Vegetable Garden”) celebration takes place on Resurrection Sunday

On 24 June, the Panditos render homage to Friar Leopoldo with a number of religious and entertainment events

The San Roque patron saint festival takes place on the 16th August when the , the saint is taken on a procession through the picturesque streets of the village and a verbena (traditional street party) is held in the main square

The Virgen del Rosario patron saint festival takes place on the 7th October
