The city of Cordoba is one of the most stunning cities in Andalucia and in May each year this historical city celebrates with a selection of Ferias and Fiestas.

The first one of these celebrations is the Crosses of May (Cruces de Mayo) which celebrates the impending arrival of Spring

The different districts of the city all compete for the best decorated cross and flowers figure prominently in the decoration of these crosses and in the festival overall.

The main events in the celebration are the ‘battle of the flowers’, processions which wind their way around the streets of this historic city along with , music, flamenco, and evening dances

The event is organized by the brotherhoods and each of these brotherhoods elect a judge to the panel that choose the winner.

The floral crosses are located on squares and corners around the historic centre.

The event takes place in the historic centre of the city and the adjoining neighbourhoods of San Basilio, San Andres and San Agustin

Next of the Calendar are the Courtyards Festival and the Window Grilles and Balconies Festival which this year runs from the 7th – 18th May

The courtyard festival centres around the competition that is run by the town Hall. The competition has been run since 1918 and sees the home owners decorating their homes with the aim of winning the award offered by the town hall . During this period there is a festival which sees a number of performances by the best singers and dancers on the scene, all of which can be enjoyed while sampling the local the local fino wine from Montilla-Moriles and the delicious tapas

The smaller but no less prestigious Window Grilles and Balconies Festival sees those who take part decorate the traditional window grilles and balconies of their houses with a colourful array of flowering plants.

For wine lovers the Montilla-Moriles Wine-tasting Festival is held in Cordoba. At the beginning of May . During the festival more than 20 bodegas (wine-cellars) take part, and the people of Cordoba and the nearby villages along with the multitudes of visitors from around the world head to taste the local wines and traditional tapas. There is also music to liven up the atmosphere and a variety of events, including special wine-tasting events organised by professional wine-tasters, open to visitors who apply.
