Torremolinos is located on the Costa Del Sol to the and is the first major tourist resort to the west of Malaga.

Torremolinos BeachIt is a tourism-oriented city which was until the 1950´s a small fishing village- It was the first resort in Spain to benefit from the tourism boom that has hit the Costa Del Sol since the 50´s

The skyline of the city is dominated by high rise apartment blocks and hotels. It had its hayday during the eighties and into the nineties and it still remains continues to have a thriving indigenous gay population but is becoming more and more popular with families and with pensioners travelling overseas, over winter for the sunshine.

In the last few years the local authorities have made major improvements to the town and its image, including a newly modeled town centre and clean beaches Torremolinos has regained some of the charm of the fishing village it once was.

The 9km of beach are busy during the summer, especially among the Spanish families that come to take their annual vacations here every year. And with temperatures often soaringTorremolinos into the 30oC’s & 40oC’s (85- over 100 F) it makes a great dstination for sun loving tourists.

As you walk along the front you will find plenty of. beach front cafés (called Chiringuitos) selling fried fish, snacks and refreshments, and the sea-front promenade at Carihuela is renowned for its fresh fish restaurants, Sundays are especially busy with Spanish families going out for lunch and a stroll along the beach front after a sea food lunch by the sea. The walk back to the town centre is uphill all the way. The nightclubs in the city however are nearly all fashioned towards the gay community and many people heads along the coast to nearby Benalmadena.

Calle San Miguel is a pretty little street lined with small shops and cafés, it provides a glimpse of the old Torremolinos, as a small fishing village, and is worth the walk.

There isn’t much in the way of museums or national monuments but there is however an aquapark for children and “not so small children”.It is located about ten minutes walk north of Calle San Miguel near the Palacio de Congresos, is a typical family-fun water park with more than 30 rides, including the blood-curdling Kamikaze chute. The park is open from May until September, 10am-7pm, and the cost is 10.80 EUR for adults and 6.80 EUR for children.
There is also an equestrian centre nearby which provides dressage displays, lessons and pony trekking in the hills. There is a weekly weekly show, held at El Ranchito riding stables in La Colina (95 238 3140) is very professional with explanations in English and Spanish. Seating is limited, so reserve first

There are six main beaches in Torromoinos: Los Alamos, Playamar, Bajondillo, La Carihuela, Montemar and El Saltillo. The 7 km main promenade has recently undergone improvements with additional landscaping and wider pavements. Now all the beaches are linked.
East of the headland of Castillo de Santa Clara
Flanked by massive hotels, apartment blocks, bars and restaurants, this area is packed during the summer. Playa de Bajondillo gives way eastwards to the beaches of Playamar and Los Alamos.
The further you walk east the quieter the beaches become. When you leave the road behind at Los Alamos the beach becomes very quiet. The Real Club de Golf de Malaga (oldest in mainland Spain) and the Parador back the beach here. Further on Guadalmar, Málaga recently achieved official naturist status by Malaga town hall.

Here lies the beach areas of La Carihuela and Montemar.
La Carihuela is a favourite and offers pleasant sea views and some dramatic rock formations, plus the old fishing village of La Carihuela which is a delightful area of picturesque simple houses and bourganvillea clad patios where old men play dominoes and drink anis.

The seafront promenade, extends west behind the expansive and popular beaches of Montemar and El Saltillo, now continuing as far as Benalmadena Marina. This is the area also known for its excellent seafood restaurants and chiringuitos (beach bars)

Torremolinos is a great place for your holiday especially if you love the sand and sea but it is also well placed to use as a base for exploring Andalucia
