The Sandpiper is a cheerful little spot ideally located on the main strip where you can enjoy good quality, home cooked food without breaking the bank. Indeed, this is their motto and one that it most definitely lives up to. It competes successfully against a large number of similar style restaurants and retains its regulars due to the consistency of its food and the pleasant welcome awarded to its customers. It is run by a Spanish lady called Anna, a bubbly blonde who is always pleased to see everyone. Here is a good opportunity if you wish to practise your holiday phrases as she will always chat to you in Spanish. She is ably assisted by Anna, an English waitress who again is always friendly and ready to pass the time of day, ensuring that your visit is an enjoyable one.
As all the food is prepared on the premises, you can be assured of its freshness and good quality. Snacks range from large baguettes filled with, for example, tasty smokey bacon smothered in onions and cheese to chilli con carne on spicy wedges or baked potatos at approx 5 euros. All dishes are garnished with homemade chips and homemade coleslaw and whilst on first sight, you could be forgiven for thinking that the garnishes are on the small side, it is actually the right amount when accompanied by the baguettes which are surprisingly filling. There is an extensive range of main course such as chicken thai curry, lasagne, fish platters, steak and gorgeous desserts such as homemade chocolate cake, ranging from 8 euros upwards to about 15 euros.
For those on a budget, the Sandpiper offers a 3 course set menu for 13.95 euros which, I think, is incredibly good value considering the variety of dishes on offer. There is a choice of 4 different starters, mains and desserts and there will undoubtedly be something there for everyone to choose from.
It is however, one of those restaurants which is either filled to capacity or completely deserted, depending on the time of day or the season so it is difficult to advise whether booking is required. Opening hours are from approximately 10 am until late and they are closed every Monday. On the whole, I would probably just suggest paying them a visit if you are in the vicinity as you will not be disappointed.
