Andalucia is full of historic sites dating back to prehistoric times, the countryside of the region is littered with reminders of days gone by and if this type of thing is of interest to you then on of the best places you can head for in the town of Rincon de la Victora in the Malaga province.
Rincon del a Victoria is located to the east of Malaga city and can be reached in under an hour from the provincial capitol. There is evidence of prehistoric life all over the area around this coastal town.
The area has also been visited by a host of races over the years such as Phoenicians, Romans, Arabs and Christians.
Around Rincon over 30 sites have been found with a host of artifacts been found givin us a detailed hisitry of the different cultures that have walked on the land before us. Over the years a stunning Bezmiliana Fort has been found as well as some caves of Victoria and Tesoro.
Located close to these dolmens, medieval farmhouses and sixteenth-century manor houses have been found recently and near to all of these you will find the Parque Arqueológico del Mediterráneo (Mediterranean Archaeology Park), a facinating park providing an excellent insight into the areas rich historical past.
The park covers an area of over 90,000 sq m.and provides a stunning green area for Rincon de la Victoria as well as providing a avenue for educating us and our children into the prehistoric heritage and how it is best to look after and preserve it.
The park includes a facinating replica of Cueva de La Victoria, complete with cave paintings. The park itself benifits from some stunning native vegitation . Everything is signposted which tells visitors what they are looking for.
The park provides a great day out for all the family mixing a blend of history and education for all the family. The best thing about the park is that entrance is Free Of Charge.
The park itself is open 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 a.m. (in the summer}

As mentioned before apart from the park itself the areas is covered with historical sites.
One of The most famous is the Cueva del Tesoro located halfway between La Cala and Rincón. Palaeolithic remains from the first Bronze Age have been discovered in the Cave which has 500 metres of gallery
There is a series of smaller caves including the Cueva de la Victoria alkthough this is currently closed to the public
The caves are open 10 to 2 p.m. and from 3 to 6 p.m.
Nearby you will also find the magnificent 18th century fortress, the Bezmiliana Fort which is used for exhibitions and cultural activities.
Please take your time to visit this area as you will have an enjoyable time learning about the past of the area while having a great day out.
