One of the most popular activities in Andalucia is music and dance, The Spanish don’t really need a reason to dress up in elaborate costumes and take to the dance floor or even the streets of the cities towns and village and enjoy themselves.
Dance in Spain is famous around the world and there are numerous events throughout the year celebrating different forms of dance.
If dance is something that interests you then there is an event coming up that is a must for your calendar.
The Jerez Flamenco Festival which has become one of the most important in the world
During the event the whole city gets involved and the clack of castanets and the stomp of tacones (heels) can be heard across the city.
There are colorful shows with singers, guitarists and dancers, as well as dance courses, concerts and exhibitions.
The programme of shows features internationally renowned stars and the venues included some of the most stunning buildings in Jerez including the Palacio de Villavicencio and the Villamarta Theatre.
Flamenco originated in Andalusia, from Moorish, Indian and European Gypsy influences. Jerez itself is often referred to as the cradle of flamenco – with its Moorish castle and large Gypsy quarter it produces an unending stream of cantes (songs), bailes (dances) and guitarra (guitar). All this makes the city the perfect place to host a vibrant flamenco festival like this
This year the festival runs from 27th February to the 14th March
