The city of Jerez de la Frontera , famous for its sherry production and for its thoroughbred white Andalucian horses plays host to an annual “Feria del Caballo” (Horse Fair) every spring. The event which has been declared of International Tourist Interest centers around the Gonzalez Hontoria Park (Or Recinto Ferial) which is located on the edge of city and is accessed by car, bus or taxi from anywhere in the city.
The fair is one of the oldest in Spain, it began as a livestock show in 1284 but know it has grown into a magnet for horse lovers and equestrian enthusiasts from around the world.
During the fair there are over two hundred casetas are set up and are open for all to enjoy.
The event brings horsemen and women from around the world and events include a stunning parades where the horsemen in broad-brimmed hats, tight black trousers and short jackets parade on their carefully manicured stallions while the ladies in flamenco dresses, sit side-saddle behind them during which they stop occasionally for a ‘copita’ of sherry and to be admired by the throng.
Other events include numerous exhibitions, events and both national and international competitions of Classical Dressage, Doma Vaquera, RAID, Polo, Driving, Gala Shows by the Royal Andalusian School of Equestrian Art, Yeguada de la Cartuja, EQUISUR as well as with much music, dancing, eating and drinking, especially in the evenings, when there is also a bullfight

2Thank you for featuring this type of festivity, I hope you could do a more in-depth feature on this particular horse fair in Jerez de la Frontera. Horse enthusiasts (like me) would surely like to more about this festivity. Thanks for this.

3Do you know what the daily events wll be? I can only go for one day and would like to pick the best date. The tourist office does not have the specific calendar of daily events.
