The Province Of Cordoba like many other Spanish Provinces have some very impressive Castles. One of the most impressive is The Castle At Almodóver

Castle Of AlmodóverCastle Of AlmodóverLocated In The Cordoba Province 22km South East of the City Of Cordoba you will find the dominating structure of Almodóver Castle. This Impressive building stands on top of a hill called Cerro de la Floresta (Hill Of The Forest)

Originally built by the Arabs on the site of an ancient Roman and Iberian fort the Castle was taken over by the cristains in 1240 where further additions were made.

From the 15th century, the whole region was in Christian hands so the castle lost its purpose as a defence station so the castle fell into a state of disrepair. At the turn of the 20th century, the castle owner, Rafael Desmaisieres, Count of Torrealva began a massive restoration project that lasted 36 years and now the castle is one of the best preserved in the whole of Spain; a visit is a must.
