Teba is located in the Guadalteba area of the province of Malaga in Andalucía. It is located 87 km from the Prrovince Capital Malaga in the mountains east of Ronda. Although small, it has a population of just over 4,500 its weath of architecture which makes Teba one of the most interesting towns in the whole of Andalucia.
The town is surounded by a beautiful landscape which includes the valley of the River Almargen, the Sierra del Castillo, the reservoir and the mountains that surround it.
The origins of the town go back to Roman times, although remains from pre-historic times, especially those found in the Las Palomas Cave, show that people have lived here long before the Romans conquered. Other remains from pre-history have been found in the Castillejos area, apart from the Roman remains at the Cortijo del Tendedero

The Castillo de la Estrella which dominates the surrounding countryside and the northern approaches to the Ronda Mountains. The castle is built on the 600 metre high hill of La Estrella which gives the castle its name. This imposing building was built in two walled areas, with 18 towers in total and covers approximately 25,000 square metres, making it one of the biggest castles in the province of Malaga.In 1931 the Castle was declared a building of Historic-Artistic Interest.
The Church of the Santísima Cruz, built by the Sevillano José Tirado, master of works in the cathedral of Seville in the 18th century is one of themost important and beautiful buildings in the town. The beautiful columns inside are made from the red marble of the Torcal de Antequera,and visitors can also see the magnificent collection of antique silver and gold-work on exhibition in the sacristy.
The Church of La Santa Cruz Real which was also built by master of works in the Cathedral of Seville José Tirado. It has a basilica-shaped ground plan has three naves, separated by eight red marble columns, each eight metres high. Vistors to this stunning building can see a 75 centimetre-high silver monstrance, made by Cordoba craftsmen in the 17th century, chalices, one of which dates from the 15th century and weighs a kilo of pure gold. Another shows figures in relief, and was donated by Cardenal Portocarrero with two inscriptions in Latin that read: “Carlos II por la gracia de Dios Rey de las Españas por su valor y protección. 1696″ and “El Ilustrísimo Señor Don Pedro Portocarrero y Guzmán, Patriarca de las Indias” Also here you can see the cross that is raised during the processions through the streets during the big festivals. It is a beautiful authentic jewel in the Renaissance style.
The town has some impressive restaurants and bars and while there you should try out the local dish known as a porra tebeña which is a porra.a type of pot stew. Where to eat. Meals made with asparagus and goat’s cheese are also popular as is rabbit in garlic. The town is also known for making metal locks, and hand made country boots.

The Romería de San Isidro Labrador takes place in the middle of May on the banks of the river Guadalteba.
The Festival of the Virgen del Carmen takes place on 16th July
The town celebrates its annual ferai in August
During the first week of October the town has a festival in honour of the town’s patron saint, the Virgen del Rosario and on 7th October (the Saints Day) there is a large procession through the streets.
