The City of Seville is famous for many reasons, from its stunning architecture and historical buildings to its world famous annual fair. It is also home to some of the finest restaurants in Spain.
However on February 1st 2008 the city streets will be filled with a different type of visitor for on this day the City hosts its annual marathon.
The Marathon Course of 42.2km (26.1 miles) makes its way though the City Streets crossing the mighty Guadalquivir River at 4 different points. Most of the course lies on the south bank of the river as the runners weave their way around the historic centre of the city.
The event starts and finishes at the world famous Olympic Stadium in the City which is located approximately 3km(2miles) to the north of the city
As with most things in Andalucia, the race is just part of the event, the party gets started a couple of days before the race with the runner’s fair and the day before the runners are treated to their traditional pasta lunch at Palenque.
After the race runners and spectators enjoy a closing party.
It has a festival feel about it and the bars restaurants and hotels are always full of people enjoying the party.
The race itself starts at 9am with the first arrivals at the finish expected around 1100 and the race officially closes at 1400.
It makes a great day out for all the family where you can enjoy a great sporting event in a beautiful city and then move on to one of the many bars and restaurants where you can enjoy fine food and wine in a stunning setting
