Following up the fabulous International Jazz festival in Marbella in June 2008, lovers of Jazz are in for another treat, this time in the inland town of Alhaurin de la Torre.

During July Alhaurin de la Torre is playing host to the splendid Jazz’s Portón de Jazz and you will be able to enjoy four concerts by some of the world’s best Jazz performers

The festival opens on the 4th July with a great performance from the Scott Henderson Blues Band.

Scott Henderson was born in 1954 in the USA and grew up during some of the best years for blues-rock was at its peak and he played the clubs with all kinds of bands playing everything from Led Zepplin to James Brown. His music soon was influenced by Jazz and in 1984 he formed the band Tribal Tech with bass player Gary Willis

He now plays alongside two great musicians John Humphrey {electric bass} and Alan Hertz {drums}. After the concert in Alhaurin he moves onto the Guitar festival in Cordoba

Then on the 11th July the fusion jazz band Spyro Gira takes to the stage bringing a great mix of jazz with blues fun and pop, The band from Buffalo , New York have been together since 1970 and are one of the best bands on the scene today. To date they have released 25 albums.

18th July sees the wonderful Viktoria Tolstoy who has rightly earned the title “first lady of Swedish Jazz. At the age of 32 she has already made her mark on the international stage and has produced 7 great albums. This is the only date she is playing in Spain this year so it will be worth attending.

Then on the 25th July the festival ends with a superb performance from Nano Garcia´s quintet who bring a fabulous performance that mixes jazz and flamenco to the stage The venue for this great festival is the Municipal Auditorium – Finca El Portón in Alhaurin de las Torre. The performances all begin at 10.30 pm
