Parador Golf MalagaThe Parador del Golf, also known as the Royal Malaga Golf Club, is the oldest course in Andalucia, having opened in 1925. The first nine holes were designed by Tom Simpson, who was responsible for the courses at Muirfield and Turnberry. This was later expanded to 18 holes, with a third loop of nine holes added recently. The course has hosted a number of important tournaments, including the Turespana Masters in 1994 won by Vijay Singh.

The course is situated next to the sea just a few minutes away from the airport. Because of this many visitors choose Parador Golf Malaga for their final game before returning home. This is partly a links course, with several of the holes adjoining the beach, and part parkland. On this latter section there are avenues of trees which provide an excellent home for groups of parakeets. The fairways, which are quite forgiving for players of a higher handicap, are generally wide and open, while the greens, with just a few exceptions, are quite flat. A notable feature of the course are the huge par 4’s, especially on the back nine. The par 3’s are quite long too, with the shortest hole, the 13th, measuring around 150 metres. The third set of nine holes is more suitable for beginners and improvers.

The most difficult hole on the course is the 12th (par 5), where you have to play a tee shot between trees and an approach shot to an elevated green which is protected by a stream. The 9th (par 3) can also be tricky with its undulating putting surface. Other notable holes include the 14th (par 5), which has a fairway bordered by sandy rough and a green surrounded by water, while the 18th (par 4) features a double dogleg with dense trees to the left.

Parador Golf Malaga has a maximum handicap of 27 for men and 36 for ladies.

Parador Golf Malaga has a clubhouse, hotel, pitch and putt area, driving range and putting green. There is a bar by the ninth hole and in the hotel. Additionally, there are several beach bars adjoining the course, although these are usually only open during the summer months.
