Olive Grove In MartosLocated in the province of Jaen is the city of Martos. With a population of over 24,000 it is the fifth largest municipality in the province. metropolitan Area of Jaén and is considered to be the second most important city in the metropolitan Area of Jaén, only suppased by the capitol itself.

The city is also considered to be the first producer of olive oil in the world.

Apart from the production of olive oil the city has some beautful historical buildings and monuments as well as the old walls that surround the city, of whose towers three are still standing: the Homenaje Tower, the Albarrana Tower, and the Almedina Tower. Martos has two castles or fortifications. The urban castle called “Castillo de la Villa “, and the “Castillo de la Peña “. Like many other Spanish cities towns and villages Martos enjoys a good fiesta. In August the town celebrates the San Bartolomé’s festival which is the pricipal fair , and on December 8th the people of this city as well as many visitors celebrate the citys most famous export in the Festival of the olive.

Other important dates are Holy week: Considered of tourist interest of Andalusia, San Amador: On May 5, Virgin of the Villa: On the first Tuesday after Holy Week,Romería of the Virgin of the Victory: last weekend of May and Saint Martha On July 29.
