City Council will destine 547.000 euros to purchase new underground waste containers and to repair the existing ones

Mayoress Ángeles Muñoz has explained that the aim of this investment is to “modernise” the city’s waste collection facilities. The project will be developed throughout the present political term.

Marbella, May 27th 2008.- Marbella City Council will destine 547.000 euros to buy 26 new underground waste containers and to repair 33 units already in operation.

So has announced today —after the Local Government Board meeting— Mayoress Ángeles  Muñoz, who has highlighted that this project responds to the local government’s firm commitment “to modernise the city” regarding cleansing and environment.

Throughout the present political term, the local government will continue improving the waste collection service offered in all the municipality. The first actions will be carried out in Marbella’s city centre (Miraflores and Divina Pastora districts), as well as in San Pedro Alcántara.

Muñoz has highlighted that “day after day, citizens perceive the progresses made” and today —just a year after the PP won the municipal elections— she has described as “reasonably satisfactory” this first anniversary. In her opinion “all municipal departments have made a great effort” despite “local management has been marked by the chaos inherited” from the previous local governments.

Municipal spokesman Félix Romero has pointed out that “we are actually trying to supplement the deficiencies accumulated during more than two decades” because citizens deserve it.

Municipal sport facilities have been the focal point of this morning’s meeting of the Local Government Board: 40.489.80 euros have been allocated to the maintenance of “Antonio Serrano Lima” complex pool and more than 30.700 euros have been allocated to the remodelling of  “El Arquillo” complex exterior pavement.

Romero has also indicated that 30.000 euros have been destined to purchase new benches, streetlamps, etc. Local historian Lucía Prieto has been appointed to carry out a historical study of the Trapiche del Prado as a necessary previous requirement (being a historical building) to start the construction works of the city’s first public residential home for the elderly.

To finish, spokesman Romero has informed about the proposal made today by the municipal Traffic Department to the Local Government Board aimed at applying for the renovation of the collaboration agreement signed by the City Council, the Ministry of Employment and Social Welfare and the ONCE foundation.

Romero has specified that the aim of it is “to continue developing our Universal Accessibility Programme” mainly regarding the adaptation of taxis to handicapped people’s needs. By doing so “we guarantee a public service to which all citizens are entitled and we try to obtain subventions for an investment which is very high” for taxi workers
