The Christmas celebrations here in Andalucia are a magical time for the whole family and finding things to keep everyone entertained over the holidays is on every parents mind.

While in many parts of the world the main celebrations of the period finish with the festivities of New Years Eve the Spanish celebration culminate in the celebrations of the Three Kings Day (Los Reyes) which is when the Spanish give their main gifts and is regarded as one of the most important holidays of the year.

On the 5th Of January when the children are starting to get restless and looking forward to seeing if the Three Kings bring all the gifs they have asked for the Vicente Aleixandre Cultural Centre in Alhaurín de la Torre is hosting an event to occupy the minds of the children.

The event is a wonderful musical play performed by the theatre company Sonhadas titled “Mara, la gallina de los huevos sonoros” (Mara, the Hen that Laid Noisy Eggs)

This magical story told through puppets is for the younger children {3-6 Years}, tells the story of Mara. Mara is a hen who couldn’t lay eggs because she was too concerned with the sounds on the farm
Mara lives on the farm of Tere who is concerned that her hen cannot lay eggs. However Tere soon learns that Mara is no ordinary hen, she can make music without real instruments
In Mara’s world, rice tins become maracas and a rake, a few strings and a pail make a double bass.
The idea of the play by Elisa de la Torre and Julia Cruz is to introduce children in the world of music and teaches them that anything can be used to make music
Instruments made with recycled materials and alternative sounds will be there for the children to discover these themselves.
