The fabulous Mr Lionel Richie is doing one performance in Marbella, Spain at the end of this month, and will be appearing at the Hotel Puente Romano on Marbella’s Golden Mile at 22.00 on Tuesday 31st July, 2007. He really needs no introduction - but is a Grammy award winning American R & B singer as well as a songwriter, record producer and sometime actor.

Lionel Richie started his career as front man for the Commodores (who were a very popular Tamla Motown band during the early 1970s). They had several hits including “Easy” and “Three Times a Lady”. Richie left the Commodores in 1981 to pursue a solo career and subsequently became one of the most successful artists of the Eighties with five number one hits and thirteen consecutive Top 10 hits in the USA.

His third album “Dancing on the Ceiling “ which was released in 1986 (and which probably contains his most popular hits including “Say You, Say Me”, Dancing on the Ceiling” and “Se La”) also marked the end of his recording and touring for a time. This is because he and his wife Brenda Richie adopted Nicole, who was the 3-year-old daughter of a member of Lionel’s band and raised her as their daughter. They also had a couple of children of their own.

Nicole Richie started attending weekly sessions with a psychotherapist at the age of 3 and remained in therapy throughout her childhood. In recent years she has attracted a lot of bad publicity for her role in the Simple Life American reality TV programme, eating disorders and turbulent personal life.

A couple of years ago Lionel Richie made the headlines with details of a very acrimonious divorce. He cites the cost of this as the reason he is once again stepping back into the limelight. He has been welcomed back with open arms by his fans and a whole new generation who appreciate his music. Lionel Richie’s career is currently enjoying a resurgence with his recently released album “Coming Home” doing exceptionally well in the UK and US charts.
