Punta Umbr�aThe Province of Huelva is the most western province of Andalucia, it borders the Spanish provinces of Bajadoz, Cadiz and Seville. The two remaining borders are with Portugal and The Atlantic Ocean.

It covers an area of 10,148 sq kms and has a population of around 485,000 , 30 % of whom live in the Capitol City of Huelva

The economy of the province is based mainly on agriculture with exports such a fruit, oil, wine cork and esparto grass: and mining including the famous Rio Tinto mines . They represent probably the oldest major mining area in the world, and were for many years the leading producer of copper in Europe and still is a major producer.

Saline and other mineral springs are common throughout the province . Huelva is the principal seaport, and is connected with Seville to the east and Merida on the north by direct railways; while a network of narrow-gauge railways gives access to the chief mining centres . The principal towns, besides Huelva and Rio Tinto , are Alosno , Ayamonte , Moguer where Cristopher Columbus sailed from on his first voyage in 1492 , and Zalamea la Real. The state and municipal road network are better engineered and maintained than those of the neighbouring provinces.

In the last few years however with its many beautiful beaches making up part of the Costa De La Luz along with the province of Cadiz and historic towns and cities as well as sharing the Parque Nacional de Doñana with its better known neighbouring province Seville this sweet little province has started to become more and more popular with the many Wetlands In Doñana National Parkvisitors to Spain.

Some of the best known beaches in the province are Torre de la Higuera o Matalascañas : : A 5km strech of fine white sand on the edge of the Doñana National Park, it is a excellent place to come with the family with a wide range of hotels bars and restaurants

.Punta Umbría : Nearly 4 km of fine white sand make up this beach and has the best services and infrastructures in the province. You can enjoy many watersports like windsurfing at this beach and there is good parking close to the beach.

Isla de Canela : This stunning beach adjoining Portugal streches for over 5km and is one of the most pleasent and tranquil beaches in Andalucia , just the journey to the beach itself is stunning as you walk down through the striking vegetation towards the beach. You pass accross the inpresive sand dunes before you reach the main beach which has an excelent infrastructure and is very popular with families due to its calm waters.

Some of the momuments and buildings worth a visit in the province include the impresive Catedral de la Merced - La Merced Cathedral. in Huelva City dating from the 17th century this beautiful building was converted into a catherdal in 1953 and declared a National Monument in 1970. Other fine buildings in the province include the Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de los Dolores del Castillo - Nuestra Señora de los Dolores del Castillo Church in Aracena and Castillo de Niebla - Niebla Castle in Niebla.

A must see is the Museo Provincial de Huelva - Huelva Provincial Museum in the capitol located on the broad Alameda Sundheim Avenue it contains important archaeological remains The museum has two major sections, Fine Arts with works by contemporary artists from the province, and Archaeology with a display providing a thrilling journey into the history of Huelva, from the Neolithic period through to Roman times including roman mining materials from Riotinto including a rare water wheel - the only one of its type that can be seen in Spain,

If a round of golf is what you are looking for the you should head for the town of Ayamonte where you will find the 18 - hole par 72 Isla Canela Golf Club located close to the sea with gentle slopes naturally formed by the dunes. The trees make the round more complicated on occasions – there are orange, olive and eucalyptus trees placed at strategic locations. The salt lakes that surround some holes are extremely beautiful.
