Guadalhorce GolfWithin easy reach of Malaga Airport is this unusual course, which is divided into two very different halves. The front nine is similar to an English parkland-type course, albeit with tropical vegetation, while the back nine is more reminiscent of a Californian course. This latter section is much trickier and has a greater variety of holes. It is characterised by the undulating fairways, lakes, and large, raised greens which are difficult to read. Several of the greens on the Guadalhorce course are very large and are in fact shared between a couple of holes.

Designed by Kosti Kuronen and opened in 1990, Guadalhorce is notable for its friendly atmosphere. It has a reputation as being one of the most hospitable clubs along the coast. Over 60 championships take place here every year, including the Vega del Guadalhorce tournament in September and, in 1992, the Spanish Men’s Amateur championship was held on the course. The club was honoured in 1991 when King Juan Carlos accepted a position as its honorary president.

Near the 7th and 9th holes, next to the practice green, there is a lovely rest area, and the land surrounding the clubhouse has an abundance of tropical vegetation including yuccas and palm trees. Drinks and snacks are available throughout the course.

There is a maximum handicap at Guadalhorce of 28 for men and 36 for ladies.

Facilities
Facilities at Guadalhorce include a driving range, restaurant, sauna, tennis courts, swimming pools, and a clubhouse designed by Ignacio Gomez Temboury, who was also responsible for restoring the mansion and farmhouse. There is a small 9-hole course which is suitable for children and beginners, and golf lessons are available.

How to get to Guadalhorce
Exit the N340 near the Carrefour shopping centre close to Malaga Airport (signposted Parque Technologico-Cartama-Campanillas). Follow this road, which runs along the Guadalhorce Valley, for around 7km (4 miles), then take the exit marked Mercamalaga. The golf course is about 1 km from here.
