The Andalucian town of Genalguacil
is a beautiful small town located in the Genal Valley right in the heart of the Ronda mountains. It is just 45 km away from Ronda itself and 158km away from the Province Capitol City Malaga.
It is a popular toursit destination especially with lovers of art and every two years the town attracts artists from Spain and abroad who come here to paint and show their work around the town. This event takes place over two weeks in August and during this time the Town Hall puts the artists up and pays for their materials in return for the finished work becomming the property of the town During this time the are also theatrical and musical performances and competitions
The town is also extremely popular with lovers of the the sport of orienteering as the area in and around Genalguacil is especially suitable for the sport which provides a beautiful contrast of lush lowland and higher mountain terrain covered with olive groves well as pine cork and oak trees. The countryside is stunning as well as been ecologically important. Nearby to the town nature lovers will find the Los Reales de Sierra Bermeja area with its rare pinsapo trees - a species of Mediterranean pine along with mountain deer and various species of hawks and eagles
Another point of interest to visitors is the area known as Los Morterestes where nestled in amongst the rare pinsapo woods you will find mines where the first dettlers to the area searched for gold.
The town itself has little architectureal places of intrest apart from its 17th century church . This beaautiful church divided into three naves, separated by semicircular arches supported by columns and covered in a timber ceiling and on the outside, it has a octagonal-based tower which was built in honour of St. Peter of Verona (San Pedro de Verona).
The town and its surrounding area make a great base for exploring the area and the lanscape is covered in rural housing that visitors can rent thoughout the year

Although small this charming little Andalucian Town is well worth visiting
