When on holiday it is always difficult to find things to occupy the children. One place that seems to appeal to every age group in the very impressive and interesting Fuengirola Zoo

The most impressive thing about the Zoo in Fuengirola on the Costa Del Sol is the fact that the animals are not hidden away behind high fences and confined in small cages. It is clean, fresh and very visitor and animal friendly.

Fuengirola ZooAs you walk around the simulated tropical forest, lush with vegetation, rivers and waterfalls, you will see animals in their natural enviroments such as crocodiles basking on the sandy shores of the Nile, Sumatra tigers bathing besides Angkor Wat, lemurs playing around an ancient Baobab tree and, if you’re brave, bats flitting around abandoned mines. On of the best area´s in the zoo is the “Claro de Selva”, where you can see birds and mammals living in their own natural habitat. Two tours made daily - mornings and afternoons

Some of the enviroments you will find at the zoo are
Madagascar: Madagascar forest (lemurs, several thousand year old baobab tree)

Equatorial Africa: Wetlands (crocodiles, flamingoes, water birds etc.) ,Forest Floor (porcupines, giant land snails, meerkats, millipedes, river hogs) ,Chimpanzee ValleyThe Zoo at Fuengirola (chimpanzees, pygmy hippos, mandrilles) ,Mountain Forest (leopards, colobus)

South-east Asia: Angkor (monsoon forest, Sumatran tigers) ,Mangrove (mudskippers, fiddler crabs, otters, Archer fish, cormorants), Riverine Forest (gibbons, babyrusas, cassowary, wallabys, deer, giant turtles) ,Forest Canopy (aviary, red jungle fowl, hornbills, gibbons, orangutans) ,Hidden Jungle (butterflies, kingfishers, flying foxes, reptiles, turtles, birds, amphibians)

On of the best area´s in the zoo is the “Claro de Selva”, where you can see birds and mammals living in their own natural habitat. Two tours made daily - mornings and afternoons.

One great innovation that the Zoo has thought up is the moonlight visit, In the months of July and August when the daytime tempretures can get very high. And in response to this the zoo now stays open until 12am. This also allows the visitors to observe the more nocturnally-active species, such as leopards, flying foxes and porcupines It is a stunning enviroment to walk around with artificial moonlight and the air filled with a piped forest soundtrack

Other facilities include a large play area, including a miniature farm, restaurants and a gift shop
