Estepona PortThe Costa del Sol has many popular tourist destinations and one of the most popular is the former fishing village of Estepona. This delightful town is located nestled in a beautiful location surrounded by the stunning Sierra Bermeja mountains and the Sea. It has its own micro climate due to its location and boasts over 325 days of sunshine, one of the highest on the Costa del Sol.

The town can be found to the west of Marbella, about 80km from the airport at Malaga although the nearest international airport can be found just 45km away in Gibraltar

The town has a resident population of around 60,000 although this number swells during the year due to the influx of tourists

One of the main attractions that Estepona has its magnificent beachesFine Beaches which stretch approx 21km along the coast and include two EC Blue Flag beaches. The “Playa del Cristo“, or Cristo Beach is one of the finest, this beautiful little cove can be found just 5 minutes away from the towns beautiful marina and has two “chiringuitos”, beach front bar/restaurants and a lifeguard station., and the main beach of La Rada located right in the centre of the town , made up of fine golden sand is also well worth a visit.

Other attractions include the Marina, and the stunning white-walled town itself with its numerous parks, squares and monuments including the fascinating Plaza de las Flores (The Square of the Flowers). The towns streets are mainly cobbled and along with the great atmosphere stunning beaches and fine restaurants this town ticks all the right boxes for a relaxing holiday.

If you are looking for a party town however Estepona is not for you, it has a more relaxed atmosphere than is neighbors Puerto Banus, Marbella and Benalmadena to the east but it does have some fine restaurants and bars offering a wide range of both traditional and international cuisine. The main selection of restaurants can be found located near the seafront, either along the main promenade adjoining the sea or along Calle Real. There are fast food restaurants but not as many as some of the towns neighbors.

If you do fancy dancing the night away there are places in the town where you can go. The best place would be to head for the towns marina which is located to the western end of the town. Here you will find plenty of late night bars and discos where you can let your hair down.

If shopping is your thing Estepona has a lot to offer, you will not find any huge shopping complexes in the town, you need to head 20 minutes down the road to La Canada in Marbella for that,. What you will find however are numerous boutiques offering contemporary international clothing brands and other goods and small shops offering local goods. The town hosts two markets each week, one on a Wednesday offering clothing as well as food and vegetables and then in the port area on a Sunday there us a smaller market offering the more “touristy” goods
For the active visitor the town offers a wide range of water sports, some excellent golf courses , a riding school and bull fighting all with easy reach.

Estepona Golf is located just outside the main town, this is a stunning 18 hole course designed by José Luis López and run as a pay as you play course. It caters for all levels of golfers and you can enjoy some magnificent views as you make your way around the holes.

The town is a great location for families due to its relaxed atmosphere, safe clean beaches and also the fact that just 20 minutes away you will find the Selwo Safari Park which is based on the African safari park and houses 2000 animals in semi-wild conditions.

All in all Estepona is a great all round destination that caters for all tastes. It has all the facilities of a modern town but retains its historic charm
