This picturesque area of Spain is a must for travelers here who are interested in flora and fauna ,as well as walkers and campers alike. There are many impressive sites providing visitors with an enjoyable and very rewarding experience
Entry to the park is strictly controlled and the core of the park is off limits to independent walkers, There are guided half day trips organized by the visitors centre.
The best option maybe to head to main visitors centre at El Acebuche located 12km from El Roci and 3km from Mantalascaas on the A483 at Km 29 . It is signposted Centro de Recepcin El Acebuche and here you will find a informative exhibition about the park, a caf and a shop where you can buy maps and books.
Accommodation in the area is varied ranging from campsites to hotels and even log cabins but during the summer months can be hard to find so if you are planning on visiting the area at this time it is best to book as early as possible. One time when the accommodation can be very difficult and also very expensive is during the El Roci pilgrimage at Penticoist so book as early as possible if you want to go at this time. The closest accommodation to the main entry point to the park can be found approx 3kms way in the town of Matalascaas.
The closest accommodation to the entry point of El Acebuche in the park is in Matalascaas, about 3km from El Acebuche. Ten kilometres north of El Acebuche is the village of El Roco, with various hotels. Alternatively, between Matalascaas and Huelva there is Mazagn or Villamanrique de la Condesa to the north of the park. Accommodation will be very hard to find (or extremely expensive) around the time of the El Roco pilgrimage at Pentecost. During the summer months Matalascaas and Mazagn are also very busy, so book ahead at this time.
For walkers there are some impressive options available and you should head for one of the visitor centres at El Acebuche, La Rocina and El Palacio del Acebrn. where you will find footpaths some of which have bird hides if bird watching is on your agenda.
Walking along the park boundary on the Play del Castilla, close to Matalscaas you will enjoy breathtaking views of the area.
If you fancy a challenging walk you should try the signposted Sendero Laguna del Jaral Medano del Asperillo, located at Km 47 on the A494 Matalascaas-Mazagn road.
. Here you will find a car park with an information board and map. The walk itself is a circular 5.6km trail that on average will take around three and a half to four hours and takes you across impressive sand dunes and tranquil pine woods. One of the main benefits to walkers are the outstanding views of the sea.
If the above may seem to much another equally rewarding walk is located along the A494
At Km 38 the Sendero Cuesta del Maneli is another circular walk again across the dunes and pine woods which should take around one and half to two hours.
There are many routes available in the area and you can get further information from one of the visitor centers
Weather your intrest is birdwatching or just solely wanting somewhere stunning to camp this beautiful part of Spain has so much to offer but why not come and judge for yourself, its worth it
