Dona Julia GolfDoña Julia Golf is part of an ambitious new development on the Costa del Sol which, when completed, will comprise three 18-hole golf courses, luxury hotels, commercial premises, and a host of other sports facilities. In total, the entire complex will cover an area of over 600 hectares. Currently there is one 18-hole course which opened in January 2006 and was designed by Antonio Garcia Garrido, who has created many new courses in Andalucia. The course has been built according to the rules of the United States Golf Association.

Doña Julia’s greens have been sown with Agrostis Pen-G2 grass, and with an average size of around 750m2, they feel very spacious. The bunkers are filled with marble sand. Many of the holes wind their way through rivers, lakes and trees. This is also quite a long course, so buggy hire is recommended. The architect has done a superb job in blending Doña Julia in with its natural surroundings, despite it being only a few years old. There are fine views of the Mediterrean Sea and Gibraltar from most holes.

Once the hotels and the new clubhouse have been completed, the length of the course will be increased to 6,100 metres. Doña Julia offers a challenge to both high and low handicappers and looks certain to become increasingly popular in the near future.

Doña Julia was built by Grupo Evemarina and is run by Aymerich Golf Management. There is a maximum handicap of 28 for men and 36 for ladies.

How to get to Doña Julia

Facilities
At the moment Doña Julia has a temporary clubhouse which contains a pro shop, restaurant and changing rooms. The new clubhouse is due to open at the end of 2007.
