Estepona GolfEstepona Golf is a privately-owned course which sits in the foothills of the Sierra Bermeja. Designer Jose Luis Lopez has cleverly utilised the natural landscape, and the beautiful setting is complemented by eucalyptus, olive, and palm trees. There are also fantastic views from the higher elevations of the course. A number of improvements have been made since Estepona was opened in 1989, and golfers will be assured of a friendly welcome as the club prides itself on its hospitable atmosphere. The course is notable for its long greens of high quality, which are regarded as being some of the best on the Costa del Sol. Estepona’s fairways are wide and usually sloping, and there are several water hazards dotted around, such as lakes and a small stream.

The course used to be renowned for the ‘Ski Run’, a 568-metre par 5 which was once Spain’s longest tee. This has since been shortened considerably and is now just a par 4. With luck you can now reach the green in two, but watch out for the rough on the left. Estepona is not a particularly long course, although there are several lengthy par-3’s, including the daunting fourteenth hole. Here you have to drive uphill towards the green, around 200 metres away, and also avoid the ravine. Big hitters may be tempted by the par 4 tenth, although you must miss the natural water hazards on either side of the green.

Estepona is a very popular course and, as such, can get very busy and advance booking is recommended. It is particularly suitable for beginners. There is a maximum handicap of 28 for men and 36 for ladies. Buggies are recommended, although fitter players may want to walk the course.
