Bellavista GolfBellavista Golf is situated within gently undulating countryside near the city of Huelva in western Andalucia. It is also just a few minutes from some of the best beaches on the Costa de la Luz. Contrary to some reports, Bellavista is not the oldest golf course in Spain – that honour goes to another course in Huelva province, the 9-hole Corta Atalaya, which was founded by British settlers who came to this part of Spain in the early 20th century to work on the Rio Tinto mines.

Despite being so close to Huelva and several popular resorts, Bellavista feels relatively isolated and is also notable for the beauty of its natural surroundings. The course is much more undulating than many others in the area, even though it is near the sea. Don’t be fooled by the fact that Bellavista is only a par-70 course – this is much trickier than you might think, especially as there are several long par-4’s and par-5’s, as well as a few tight fairways.

Bellavista Golf was originally opened in 1976 with 9 holes designed by Luis Rescasens. A further nine holes, created under the guidance of Mendez Quiepo de Llano, were added in 1995. The older part of the course is characterised by numerous pine trees and some interesting doglegs, with plenty of opportunities to hit the ball out of bounds. Difficult holes on this section include the 7th (par 4) requiring an uphill tee shot, followed by a second shot down to the green which is well protected by bunkers. The fourth hole is also considered very tricky. The newer section of the Bellavista course covers a much more open area. It is notable for its wide fairways, so is therefore considered less challenging.
