Playa Serena is a beautifully maintained 18-hole golf course, regarded as one of the finest in Spain. It’s situated within the province of Almeria, a few miles from the popular resort of Roquetas de Mar and just a short hop from the beach. The course is notable for its wide fairways and skillfully designed greens. Nine lakes, seven of which are natural, provide plenty of hazards. These lakes also provide a welcome stopover point for several species of migratory birds. Playa Serena has been considered challenging enough to host several competitions and the national circuit trials.
Notable holes on the front nine include the long 4th (par 4), which has a sharp dogleg to the left and rough on the right-hand side, and the 5th (par 4) on which the fairway appears to get narrower in the distance. The green on this hole is protected to the front and left by a lake, which often attracts a variety of birds such as ducks and flamingos. A very wide fairway is a feature of the 7th (par 5) providing a good test your driving power.
Water comes into play during much of the back nine, especially on the 11th (par 3) where the fairway is entirely replaced by a rocky lake. There is also a severely sloping green to contend with. Yet more water is a feature of the 12th (par 4) and 13th (par 5) holes, with the latter requiring a long and straight drive to avoid the rough on the left and right. The 17th (par 3) has a green situated on a raised plateau, although this should not pose too many problems for players with low handicaps. Overall, Playa Serena is an enjoyable and varied course which does not feel repetitive.

Many of the facilities at Playa Serena have recently been renovated, including the clubhouse which contains a restaurant, shop, lounges and changing rooms.
