If you fancy escaping from the coastal resorts of the Costa del Sol you should try headingCoin - Santa Maria Convent a short distance inland to the white washed village of Coin. Coin is situated in the Valle del Guadalhorce, at the foot of the northern face of the Sierra de Mijas and overlooked by the Sierra de Alpujata in the province of Malaga. Coin is is one of the most up and coming villages on the Costa del Sol located about 30 minutes drive from the airport of Malaga and 30 minutes from Marbella.

The town dates back to the roman era although in truth it resembles an Arabic town, it is steeped in history with roots established well before the Roman occupation. and although Coin is still really a village, King Alfonso XIII awarded it the title of city in 1925Coin Fountain

The village has a wealth of important architecture including several churches. The Church of San Andres is also known as the Caridad and forms part of the hospital. The Church of San Juan is one of the largest churches in the province and has been officially declared a national monument .The town is a great base to explore the inland areas of Andalucia but still be with easy reach of the regions beaches.

Some of the areas of natural beauty that can be found close to Coin are the forests of Alpujata, La Fuente, El Charco del Infierno and La Albuquera.

The town itself is stunning and traditional with small, narrow streets which are still lined with many family owned shops.In the centre of town you will find a wonderful plaza where the old town hall is located.. In the last few years however the town like many other inland villages and towns have seen a vast amount of modernisation due to the influx of many foreigners chosing this part of Spain to make their home.These improvements include the construction of a new town hall which is located in the Plaza de la Via which is a stunning square with fountains, gardens, several fine bars and a underground car park.

On the outskirts of the town on the road to Cartama you will find the commercial centre, ‘La Trocha’ where you will find some good shops ranging from electrical goods to clothing.
