Here in Andalucia there are many traditional arts and crafts that have gone on for centuries, be it the fabulous wine making or the stunning ceramics that can be seen in the abundance of sovenear stores that can be found right accros the region
The artistic pottery is one of the most popular gifts that people purchase for loved ones back home or to adorn their walls or tables to remind them of their visit to our part of the world.
It is not just the tourists who purchase these beautiful and in some cases practical pieces of art, in many homes across Andalucia you can see the ceramic plates hanging on the walls or the stunning pots sitting in the corner full of the artificial flowers.
There are many towns across the whole region that produce the ceramics which will see in our homes and some of the most beautiful is produced in the small inland town of Coin in Malaga Province where they have been producing their own stunning pottery since around 1700
The pottery that comes from the town has its own wonderful style with its recognizable shapes and bright transparent colors. Green, yellow, and blue pieces.
One of the best places to see this excellent pottery is at the Ceramica las Vistillas in the town where not do they produce some fine ceramics but also pass on their knowledge to visitors to their fine establishment
There is a fabulous Ethnography Museum where you can learn about Coín’s history in the 20th century as well as been able to learn about pottery from the many skilled craftsmen and women who work there
The pottery will produce work to order and it is also possible to purchase some fine traditional pieces of work from the pottery.
The reason that this is a great day out for all the family is that not only will you get a chance to learn about one of Spain’s oldest traditions, you will also be able to enjoy a fun day out at this country estate,
Once you have explored the central attraction you can also enjoy the stunning grounds with its fruit trees, native plants, medicinal herbs, and even animals such as Andalusian donkeys, hens, turkeys, pheasants
It really is a place for all the family and the Pottery also organizes school visits so that this traditional craft continues long into the future
Ceramica las Vistillas is open to the public Mon-Sun, 9:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m
