cazalla-de-la-sierraLocated on the top of a hilltop some 85km northwest of the Andalucian capitol Seville is the charming little whitewashed town of Cazalla de la Sierra in Andalucia

It is the second largest town within the confines of the Sierra Norte Natural Park, although it only has a population of around 5000.

Although small the town has some wonderful examples of the diverse architecture found across Andalucia from the stunning Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Consolación which has a mix of styles including a Mudéjar tower and fine Renaissance interior to the former town hall which has a beautiful Baroque façade

The town hall now resides in the former convent of San Agustín which is built in a Baroque style as is the former convent of San Francisco which now is home to a producer of  anisette.
The towns surroundings make it a favorite with lovers of walking and horse riding and there are some excellent trails accessible from the town heading out into the Huéznar valley where if you combine two of these trails you can put together stunning walk around the Sierra Norte countryside
The first of these trails start at the el Chorrillo fountain which starts from the east of the town and heads out over the Puente de Los Tres Ojos which crosses the Rio Huénar. This trial is known as Sendero de los Laderas. If you combine this with the trail that follows the path of the Camino Viejo de la estacion (old station track), it makes a excellent 9km long trail.

For full details of these trials and others in the area visit the Tourist Office in the town.
Probably the thing the town is most famous for however is not its stunning scenery or its magnificent architecture but its aniseed-based liqueur (anís) and its rich-tasting cherry brandy (guinda).
It is defiantly worth sampling either of these two products in the many local bars and restaurants.
