Of all the fabulous restaurants situated in Fuengirola´s famous area of Fish Alley, Aroma is one of the very best. Opened three years ago, this elegant eaterie has evolved into of the most popular restaurants in town, and the food is delicious. Situated just 50 metres from the sea front, Aroma is easily accessible on foot, and boasts one of the best locations in Fuengirola.

Fuengirola has long ago thrown off its fish and chips image (although you an still get those if you fancy), and the town now boasts some of the finest restaurants in Andalucia.

Run by John and Roque, the presentation of the food at Aroma matches the stylish furniture and opulent feel of this special restaurant. Open from 6.30pm, seven nights a week, Aroma uses many local ingredients in its fabulous range of dishes, and also offers an extensive wine list to complement the menu. John originates from Scotland, and Roque from Argentina, and their catering expertise and professionalism shines through when you visit Aroma.

With seating for 60 people inside and 20 on the terrace, this restaurant is neither too big nor small, and the friendly service is both welcoming and efficient. Variety really is the spice of life at Aroma, and old favourites such as garlic bread, home-made paté and delicious home-made soups, mingle with the more extravagant ostrich carpaccio, fresh lobster ´Café de Paris´ and a host of other magnificent offerings.
Last time we visited with four friends and enjoyed a selection of fabulous starters including salad citronella with prawns, citrus fruits and a home-made vinaigrette, gravadlax with mustard dressing, fresh scallops thermidor and a superb provolone – speciality Italian cheese, grilled with chimichuri sauce. We like to mix and match our starters, and everything was superb.

The staff at Aroma are helpful and informal, and gave our guests some useful information about local nightlife in town, and where the best places were to go after the restaurant.

After a welcome 15 minute break, and another bottle of the excellent Gran Viña Sol, we were presented with our main courses, which included a beautiful, tender Argentinian fillet steak, grilled to perfection, fresh sole fillets with a vermouth sauce, beef stroganoff and a sublime monkfish mornay.

We never do anything by halves, and after so much fab food, we decided later on to browse the dessert menu. Despite an amazing selection of home-made desserts which looked superb, we plumped for a couple of lemon sorbets with a vodka shot. Everything was absolutely delicious.
The beauty of this restaurant is its food and location. If you enjoy people watching, there is no better place to sit than on the terrace at Aroma. The restaurant is situated in the heart of the busiest dining area in town, which is usually packed with people in the summer months.

There are several great bars also in Fish Alley to go for a pre or post-dinner drink, including Britannia with its huge terrace and slick service, the Olive Tree just opposite Aroma and several cocktail bars which open well into the evening. Night clubs are also within easy walking distance of Fish Alley, and the hub of Fuengirola´s night life surrounds Aroma Restaurant.

John and Roque like to keep things interesting at Aroma, and there are always new specialities on the menu. Friends of ours tried the smoked fish sushi last time they were in town, made with a selection of the finest ingredients, and they vowed it was better than the sushi they normally ate at a popular Japanese restaurant in Marbella. Authentic Japanese ingredients were used, and the accompaniments were both tasty and unique.
Attention to detail is paramount at Aroma, and although Fish Alley boasts many restaurants, there are few that offer such a high quality of food and service. The kitchen is always the engine room of any thriving restaurant business and Aroma is no exception. The presentation and taste of the food here is incredible. You may have to wait for a table in the busier months, and if you want to sit on the terrace, you are always recommended to reserve a table a few days beforehand.

This is an exceptional restaurant with delicious food and excellent service. Try it – you won´t be disappointed.
