Arcos Gardens has quickly established itself as one of the top golf courses in the Costa de la Luz area since it opened in 2006. It benefits from a superb location in the midst of Andalucia’s ‘pueblos blancos’ with some magnificent views of the village of Arcos de la Frontera clinging to the hillside, and the Sierra de Grazamela mountains to the east. Top players and teams, including the Swedish Golf Federation, have already chosen Arcos Gardens for their winter training regimes. The course’s reputation received a further boost when it was chosen as the Best Golf Development at the 2007 International Property Awards.
Arcos Gardens has wide fairways with very little rough, although a high premium is placed on accuracy due to strategically-placed bunkers and tees. Lakes and a winding river also come into play on several of the holes. The greens tend to be moderately-sized, often with subtle contours. With five different tee levels, the length of the Arcos course varies considerably, making it suitable for beginners as well as seasoned professionals.
Notable holes on the front nine include the testing 4th (par 5), with its fairway full of bunkers, and the lovely 9th (par 5), on which a stream crosses the fairway twice. Its green is also guarded by a small lake on the right-hand side. The course’s signature hole is the 16th (par 5), which plays downhill towards a lake-protected green. There are some fabulous views from this hole. The short 17th (par 3) has a green which is very difficult to read, while final hole (par 4) has a lake which almost entirely surrounds the green.
Arcos Gardens was designed by the Landmark Group, who have created several of the world’s top courses.
Facilities
Arcos Gardens has some excellent practice facilities, including a huge driving range, several target greens, practice bunkers, chipping area and putting green. The clubhouse, which is expected to be open at the end of 2008, will include a bar and members’ lounge.
