The pretty Andalucia village of Sierra de Yeguas lies in the stunning northern part of the region of Antequera right on the border between the provinces of Seville and Malaga.

The village is surrounded by some of the most stunning landscapes that Andalucia has to offer and this landscape is dominated by the magnificent Los Caballos mountains

It is known that the first settlements date from as far back as the Neolithic Period with many artifacts been found in the area. However it’s the Romans who really left their mark and there are many archaeological sites which are well preserved where ceramics, columns and a few coins, as well as ruins of villas and of some bathhouses have been found

The village is a pleasant place to walk around with clean and well-planned streets libed with the traditional whilewashed homes . The main attraction in the village itself is the Inmaculada Concepción parish church whos most noteworthy structures are the choir room and the atrium, along with what remains of a chapel built in the eighteenth century,

The main attraction of the village is its stunning loation and the several archaeological sites that can be close to the village. Ruins of villas have been found at the Peñuela and La Herriza farmsteads, while at Haza de Estepa parts of some ancient bathhouses have been preserved.

One of the best times to visit the village is during its now famous Feria del Espárrago (Asparagus Fair) which is held between March and April (the date varies) and the celebrations. attract people from different points in the province to sample Sierra de Yeguas’ exquisite asparagus, which is served in omelets, scrambled or grilled. Dozens of stands also offer the public the most diverse assortment of products, from cheese to kitchen furnishings, all of which are made in the district and bear the distinctive local touch. There will also be no shortage of musical performances on this day.

The town’s main fiesta which is held in honor of San Bartolomé takes place from 24th to 26th August During these three days there is intensive activity and great fun, with massive participation in the numerous activities that are organized

Also the town celebrates is faming heritage with San Isidro (Saint Isidore the Farmer) pilgrimage on 15 May
