The beautiful whitewashed village of Riogordo is located in the north-western part of the La Axarquía region of the Malaga Province. It is located in some of the most beautiful countryside that Andalucia has to offer just 33km from Valez Malaga and about 33km from Malaga. The village is overlooked by peaks of the Tajo de Gómer (Gómer cliff, 1,129 metres) and the Castejón peak (972 metres).

The village although small has quite a lot to offer the visitor who ventures inland .

The most notable building in the village is the stunning Nuestra Señora de Gracia parish church which dates from around 1490.

Other notable buildings in the village include the San Sebastián or Jesús Nazareno hermitage which was built in the seventeenth century and the Ethnographic Museum which is located in the Calle La Iglesia, 14. The museum houses 247 works on exhibition relating to the history of the faming heritage of the area , including : the olive oil mill, a wine press, a flourmill and the house of the miller.

Visitors will notice that the village is built on two forms two very different areas: the upper neighborhood, called Cerrillo, and the lower neighborhood, La Plaza due to the uneven terran that the village sits on. The narrow streets and whitewashed homes add to the warmth of the village

Despite is size there are some notable fiestas which are worth visiting bur the one that Riogordo is most famous for is El FERI (Festival of sacral - ritual Music and Theatre) which begins starts one week before Easter week and lasts two weeks. .The festival features an extensive program reaching from theatre, music and various exhibitions and now is one most important dates on the region’s cultural diary.

The “veladilla” is celebrated from 27 to 29 May. This is a livestock fair with a strong gastronomic element. During this fair large quantities of snails are consumed. Snails are probably the most famous dish in Riogordo, so much so that the Deputation of Malaga has decided to declare the last Sunday in May “Day of the Snail. When in Riogordo you should try the local dish Caracoles en caldillo (snails in sauce) which is without a doubt this village’s most famous dish
