Located 38 kms from Ronda in the southern part of the Ronda highlands is the small Andalucian village of Jubrique

The village was formed when the four Moorish settlements of Rotillas, Monarda, Benamedá and Jubrique joined together

The village well known for its vineyards and associated industries and by the exploitation of mineral resources in the mountains. The grape and wine tradition in Jubrique continued until well into the twentieth century, and even today the only distilleries in the region, in Ronda, belong to a family from Jubrique.

The Francisco de Asís parish church is the most notable building in the village. It dates from around the 16th or 17th century. Since then the building has undergone modifications,

The structure has a rectangular floor plan and later additions were the tower, in the eighteenth century, and the front of the church and the transept, which were completed in the nineteenth century. The church houses several interesting polychrome wooden statues from the eighteenth century, including a Saint Francis of Assisi, a Nazarene and a Virgin of La Candelaria.

The surrounding countryside is some of the best for those who enjoy hiking and trail walking, and there are several wonderful spots both in the village and the surrounding forest trails.

From the village you can walk though some of the most stunning scenery to the nearby villages of Faraján Pujerra, Genalguacil and Benalauría .It is also possible to access the magnificent the Sierra Bermeja range and the Genal valley.

The trails available are a variety of levels of difficulty and information on the trails can be obtained from the Tourist information department at the town hall.

Holy week {Semana Santa} is a good time to visit the village as you will be able to see cofradía (brotherhood) scenes such as as the meeting of the Virgin with Jesus of Nazareth, which occurs on the morning of Good Friday. During this scene the statue of the Virgin wipes away her tears, in the presence of the entire village thanks a mechanism that allows this

Another notable day is Holy Thursday Jesus is carried in a procession to bless the village while on Easter Sunday you can see the traditional “quema de Judas” (burning of Judas).

Other good times to visit the village include early May when the villagers costumes from the Middle Ages that represent ancient trades take part in a masquerade party. During the party they display works they have completed during the year. On the 15 May villagers from Jubrique join with the residents of surrounding villages to take part in the The Las Cruces pilgrimage

The Fiesta del Emigrante (Emigrant’s Fiesta) is also celebrated in this locality in honour of villagers who had to leave in search of a better future. Some of these people return specifically to participate in this celebration, which is usually in the second or third week in August. The fiestas honouring Saint Francis of Assisi, patron saint of the village, take place around 4 October and last for about five days, during which time the village intensively participates in the festivities and religious events.
