Located in a mountain range between the Genal and Guadiaro rivers in the southern part of the Ronda region of Malaga is the pretty little Andalucian village of Algatocín. The village is located just 30km from Ronda and 143 km from the provincial capitol of Malaga.
It is surrounded by mountains and the Genal valley covered in beautiful forests and the stunning Guadiaro valley where irrigated crops grow.
The village has some stunning buildings that date from the eighteenth century, Notable buildings in the village are the stunning 16th century Virgen del Rosario parish church which is said to be built over the former palace of the legendary Princess Algotisa
A legend has it that the village’s name comes from that of Princess Algotisa, daughter of Abomelia, second Moorish king of Ronda
In the church you can see several art objects from the eighteenth century, such as a polychrome wooden image by an unknown artist of St. Francis of Assisi.
Another notable building is the Calvario hermitage which is known more for its location than for its architecture, which is located in the highest part of the village

Street marches, dances, a procession, the “diana floreada” and countless other activities are held with great public participation.
On the days of San Isidro (15 May) and San Juan (24 June), there are various pilgrimages in an area called Salitre.
