August is coming and so is the Malaga fair which attracts many hundreds of thousands of visitors each year , however around the region there are many towns celebrating during August.

So if you are looking for a good time but do not fancy the spectacle that is the Malaga fair then one suggestion is for you to head north to the Andalucian town of Almogia in the province of Malaga

The August fair of Almogia runs from 14th to the 17th of the month this year.

It begins with a stunning firework display {”mascletá”}

During the days the main square is the place to be with a wide range of activities including traditional games and sports

A foam party

Entertainment for all ages

Shows, concerts, and even a cookout.

During the evening the fairground will take centre stage in the celebrations where locals and out-of-towners will gather to enjoy “coplas” and “sevillanas,” dances, and orchestras

Probably the biggest highlight of the fair is a concert by Spanish Pop singer Merche who is set to entertain the crowds with her spectacular show

The Cadiz born singer has built up a very large following since taking part in the Spanish preselection for the Eurovision Song Contest in 2001. She only came sixth but went on to stardom.

As a prelude, there’ll be a Mass at La Asunción Parish Church and a procession carrying patron saints San Roque and San Sebastián down to town and up to the Sagrado Corazón de Jesús Chapel.
