The province of Almeria is located in the eat of Andalucia, it s bordered by the provinces of Granada, Mucia and the Mediterranean Sea. It has 101 municipalities and covers an area of 8,769 sq km and a population of over 546,00. The capitol city of the province is Almeria.
In the province you will find the only desert in Europe and it also shares the Sierra Nevada National Park with its neighbor Granada province
One thing the province is famous for due to its desert landscape is that it has been used for many famous western films including The Good, the Bad and the Ugly and A Fistful of Dollars. This area known as the Desert of Tebernas has had many Western towns built there the most famous been Mini Hollywood which goes back to the sixties and was the first of these towns to be built in Almeria, Come and experience life in the wild west of America.Live shows through out the day. Tourism is becoming more and more popular in the province with resorts such as Aguadulce, an ideal place to enjoy a traditional sand and sea holiday, Roquetas de Mar, Situated 8 kms along the coast from the capitol city , this is a popular resort for tourists with some good beaches., Nijar a very beautiful little Moorish town
and Mojácar a Moorish fortress town standing on a towering crag overlooking a shore graced by pristine beaches attracting more and more visitors each year
The capitol city Almeria offers visitors a wide range of historic monuments including the magnificent Alcazaba, an Arab fortress built by the Calph of Cordoba, Abd-erRahman III with three huge walled enclosures and the cathedral located in t the heart of the old part of the city built in 1524.
Almeria´s skies are also the clearest in Europe and the province has an annual average of 3,000 hours of sunshine, which along with its beautiful beaches makes this province an idea holiday destination
Getting to the province is very easy, Almeria Airport is located about 10km east of the city and is the second most important airport in Andalucia for tourism arrivals You can find taxis at the airport and fares are reasonable e.g to the city centre is about 15 Euro. To Aguadulce 19 Euro, Roquetas 26 Euro, Cabo de Gata 23 Euro, El Ejido 40 Euro, Mojacar 75 Euro. You can also get the local bus line 14 links the airport with the city centre train and bus station. The price of a single ticket is 0.70 Euro. There are busses every half hour in the day and every three quarters of an hour in the evening. The first bus leaves the airport at 07.22 and the last at 22.08.
