Alhaurin Golf is a course which tends to divide opinions. Many consider the tight and undulating fairways to be rather unforgiving, with good shots rarely rewarded. On the other hand, other golfers enjoy the stunning scenery and peaceful nature of the course. Whatever your opinion, this is definitely a course you need to play a few times to get used to it. Accuracy is much more important than power and length here, otherwise you will soon end up in one of the many bunkers or the wild rough.
Alhaurin Golf is located on the edge of the Sierra de Mijas mountain range, within the municipality of Alhaurin el Grande. It is within easy reach of Malaga Airport, around 15km away. The course was designed by the legendary Spanish golfer Seve Ballesteros and was opened in 1994. In creating his design, Seve has successfully managed to respect the natural environment.
The 4th (par 4) is the most difficult hole on the course, with a couple of bunkers on the right and three trees in the centre of the fairway. Another very tricky hole is the 10th (par 4), on which the tee is above the fairway with a bunker on the left. A further two bunkers guard the left-hand side of the green. Watch out for the swimming pool which is liable to catch any wayward shots on the par-4 eighteenth! Due to the up-and-down nature of the Alhaurin course, you will also have to play a number of blind tee and approach shots during your round.
There is a maximum handicap at Alhaurin of 28 for men and 36 for ladies.
How to get to Alhaurin Golf
