Alhaurin el Grande is a town located in the province of Malaga in in Southern Spain with a population of around 20,000, 30 km. from the capital city, and at 239 meters above the sea level. It is one of the most picturesque villages in the Guadalhorce river valley and it is situated between the river Fahala and the stream of Blas Gonzlez. The coast is close by, with Fuengirola and Mijas, the drive up from the coast is stunning but be warned it is quite a long and winding road round the mountain either up from La Cala de Mijas or via the pretty village of Mijas Pueblo. There is a new road which runs through to Marbella to the south west. There is also a road conecting to the coast near Malaga passing through the towns Of Alhaurin de la Torre and Churriana The rolling hills and wide open spaces give a feeling of space from all around the town.
The town has a good selection of shops , bars, restaurants and hotels including a small area on the towns ringroad known as little Britain where as the name suggests you can find a selection of English businesses including food shops, a book shop and of course the good old fish nchip shop.
In the last couple of years the town has started to really flurish with more and more forign residents shunning the coast with its high prices and “heading for the hills” and with this growth has seen the town hall take action to ensure that the services the town has to offer benifits its growing population including the constuction of new public librarya new theatre , a complete reform of the Ferria Ground in the centre of town as well as extensive improvments to the roads and public services in the town. Also there is exstensive construction of new apartments and townhouses in and around the town to house the new inhabitants of the bustling Andalucian town
If you still need more services the town has to offer the nearby towns of Coin with La Trocha, its new shopping centre and Alhaurin de La Torre provide any missing services which might be needed.

The town itself is not regarded as a major tourist destination but it is a charming historic town that is well worth a visit, it is just a short drive from the coast and if you want to escape the hussle and bustle of the beach it is well worth a visit. The people are friendly and you will get a warm Andalucian welcome in the towns bars and restaurants and if you are looking for a place to settle but still have good access to the coast you would struggle to find a better location. Just one bit of advice, practice your Spanish as this town is real spain and alot of the people speak little or no english. Just try to speak spanish and you will find these friendly people will soon become friends .
If Sport is what you have in mind you can go and watch the local football team C.D. Alhaurino who play in the 3rd division of the Spanish La Liga . There is also a new sports centre on the outskirts of the town on the road to Alhaurin de la Torre.
Nearby to the town you will find two of the Costa del Sols finest golf courses Alhaurin Golf and Lauro Golf.
