Jerez CathedralJerez Cathedral
Jerez Cathedral was once the church of Iglesia Mayor de San Salvador, and only became a cathedral in 1980. Built above a Moorish mosque in 1695, the cathedral took 83 years to complete and seven architects were involved in the planning and construction.  Reconstructed in the 18th Century, the cathedral takes the form of a Latin cross and has five naves and a Baroque altar.  Said to be the last gothic church built in Spain, the bell tower is situated in a separate building. The façade of the cathedral is impressive, but the interior is now in need of some restoration.  Jerez cathedral is well worth a visit.
