For those of us you have passed their first youth, but still young enough to enjoy an evening out there are lots of possibilities in Puerto Banus.
Matt and I usually meet up at Sinatra’s where our short, bald friend “EL Presidente”, (or Manolo) serves us beer or a gin and tonic. This is Puerto Banus main meeting place and is always busy.
As we are between 30 and 50 we are men of habits. Next stop is dinner at Red Pepper just beside Sinatra’s. The food is excellent, the service and atmosphere always very good. Kris who owns it has been sitting there for 22 years. He knows thousands of faces and hundreds of names. Together with a lot of property in Marbella he owns a couple of hotels in Cyprus, (where he’s from), the Grand Hotel Benehavis, and a hotel in London.
After a good meal in Red Pepper its time to push on. We usually have one drink somewhere along the waterfront. Mumbai, Havana’s or Portside.
If we were in our twenties we could then go on to Dreamers, Comedia or News Café which are discos for that age group. If we where really old we would end up in Old Joyce Piano Bar.
Our favorite spot for years hard been the piano bar called Marvellous. Younger people, nice place and very good live music. But a year ago it was closed as the fashion brand Gucci had bought the premises. Think of going in there now wanting to hear Mustang Sally and only seeing handbags.
Paul was the lead singer in Marvellous and he knew he had a big crowd he had to take care of. ( like us) He therefore found a new place in the second line which he called “the Piano Man” We where there on Saturday and it was packed. People dancing and drinking and having a very good time.
The Piano Man closes at around 3 am and for those who have the stamina they can continue to a new place in the Port called Seven. If one is interested you can go to several lap dancing places like Pink and the Premier Lounge. If you are really interested in a good place to go you can take a taxi to Olivia Valere, which is the most posh nightclub on the Costa del Sol. Alternative during summer also Suite on the Beach at the Puento Romano Hotel.
But being our age we are usually very happy after the Piano Man and make our way home from Puerto Banus.
