Many markets have popped up along the Coast over the past few years, but the most colourful and vibrant of these has to be Nueva Andalucia.
Hosted every Saturday throughout the streets around the Bullring and Centro Plaza, the market opens from 9am-3pm and boasts over 100 stalls. Everything from suitcases, belts, bags and even carpets can be bought here along with holisitic remedies, fabulous hand crafted jewellery and beautiful tapestries and even designer curtains.
Last time we were there I bought two tablecloths, made from the most delicate lace and hand woven in intricate detail. The leather stalls are also impressive and the quality goods are great value for money.
Not only is this a great way to bag a few bargains, however, if you like to while away some time relaxing and people watching, then there is no better place than this. The rich, the famous and the glamorous make a beeline for Centro Plaza on a Saturday morning to enjoy the special atmosphere and to take in the sights – a favourite place for the ladies who lunch!
Nueva Andalucia being what it is, there are no shortage of cafes, bars and restaurants nearby to suit the most discerning coffee lover. We usually make a day of it and wander down into Puerto Banus to take some refreshment by the waterside, but if you prefer to stay closer to Centro Plaza, try Yanx Diner or Leonards for a refreshing drink or a bite to eat.
One word of advice - go to the market on foot or public transport as parking is very difficult around here on market day. Also, the market gets very hot and busy in the Summer months so wear light clothes and comfy shoes.
