After the hectic summer season, finding an evening show during the winter months is not always easy. Trying to find entertainment at a reasonable cost is sometimes quite difficult especially as the Christmas and New Year parties are already advertising their entertainment and many are quite expensive.
I can thoroughly recommend an enjoyable evening out at the Atalaya Park Hotel just outside San Pedro Alcantara listening to the music and songs of the well-known ‘Rat Pack’.
It is sometimes difficult to produce talent that is worth paying for when there is such a plethora these days of Karaoke singers in bars and clubs along the coast all singing the songs of these famous artists. Thankfully this evening of entertainment is far from being just a glorified Karaoke session!
The three gentlemen pertaining to be the members of the ‘Rat Pack’, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Junior, are a truly talented trio. They have all made every effort not just to look and sound like the originals but have even perfected personal mannerisms too. All three singers - Paul Ellis, Dave Lee and Thomas Henry - are well known performers along the coast and have been singing successfully for many years. They sing up to 32 songs all made famous by the ‘Rat Pack’ including such hits as Bojangles, Everybody Loves Somebody, New York New York, Chicago, and My Way.
Whether singing solo or together the quality of their performance is excellent. Each of the singers has a good rapport with the audience and augments their songs with a touch of humour or dance.
Eight musicians - members of the Marbella Big Band - provide an impressive musical accompaniment for the songs. The careful and talented professional musician Ian Green, who is well known for his musical involvement in West End shows, is the musical director and Master of Ceremonies. In addition to the singers and the band, a touch of glamour is added by three young, lithe and agile ‘Las Vegas’ dancers who perform alongside all three male singers in an amazing array of different costumes.
There are shows on Tuesday the 11th and 18th December with an extra performance on Wednesday 19th. There will also be a performance on New Years Day – a good idea if you have guests staying after New Years Eve, always a difficult night to fulfil the entertainment expectation after the ‘big event’ of the previous evening!
After each show dancing is available until 2 am without any further charge.
The show is held in The Sands Discothèque at the Atalaya Park Hotel. It is a well-appointed, self - contained area with appropriate lighting, comfortable seating, good acoustics and a fully stocked bar with waiter service. The drinks are all reasonably priced especially when you consider the venue and as there is no food available it is recommended that you dine before the show.
All shows start at 9.30pm and last for about 2 _ hours. The cost is 30 euros per person with a 10% discount for groups of 10. Further discount can be negotiated for larger groups.
The ticket office can be reached on +34 952 928 481 for reservations. It is recommended that you reserve your tickets by telephone and the tickets can be collected from 8.45 on the night of the performance. There is no facility to pay by credit card so it is cash only.
The Atalaya Park Hotel is reached by travelling along the A7 /N340 coast road through San Pedro Alcantara towards Estepona. Take the turn off for Benahavis about 300 metres after you have passed under the San Pedro ‘Arch’ and go under the pass to the beach side of the main road. The hotel is then clearly sign posted. It is about 500 metres to the hotel entrance.
The ‘ Rat Pack’ show will have a break during January until mid February when the show will start again interspersed with other popular tribute acts.
